Lex Leslie was a recognized educator and principal atWananami Remote Community School, located at Kupungarri Community (Mt Barnett Station) in the Kimberley region. He was honored with the 1998 Aboriginal Education Award of Excellence for outstanding non-Aboriginal educator, for his work in the school. Leslie later participated in the 2000 Australian Indigenous education conference. He served as the school’s principal during a period focused on improving educational outcomes and cultural integration for Indigenous students in remote areas.
