Jeanette Connolly (HOD)

Jeanette was the inaugural Head of Department, Junior Primary, at Mount Lawley Teachers’ College.
She retained this position until 1995.
During this time, she trained generations of Primary teachers.
She is remembered as providing an excellent grounding in early childhood education.

I have Jeanette to THANK for a wonderful grounding in “Junior Primary Method”, being the main subject which gave me the best grounding for my long teaching career, especially in Junior Primary classes.RIP.

Fran Ciupryk

Fran Ciupryk taught at Kewdale Junior Primary School in 1972, and later lectured in Junior Primary at MLTC.

She was a prominent member of the Mathematical Association of Western Australia (MAWA) and was instrumental in establishing a branch of the association in the 1970s and  was involved in the 1976 Teachers’ Conference held in Perth.

Fran was a member of the MAWA committee continuously from 1984-1998. During that time she had a number of roles including Vice President, conference convenor, a member of the PD planning committee and joint coordinator for the annual MAD – the Mathematics Activity Day. From 1987-89 Fran was the MAWA Councillor on AAMT and was the Vice President of AAMT for eight years from 1990-97.

Her work is cited in an educational document that mentions her and John Malone for “Exemplary Mathematics Teaching at the Year 1 Level”.

Collette Tayler

Collette Tayler graduated as a teacher in 1969 with a Teacher’s Certificate (Primary) from Kelvin Grove Teachers College, Brisbane. During her teaching career she gained further qualifications including a Diploma of Teaching at Mount Lawley College of Advanced Education,  and a Bachelor of Education at Edith Cowan University. She completed a PhD in Education in 1987 at UWA.

Professor Emeritus Collette Tayler held the Chair in Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) at the University of Melbourne, for ten years. After graduating as a teacher, Collette worked in different parts of Australia and overseas, consistently focusing on effective teaching, and young children’s learning and development.

Professor Tayler passed away on Friday 1 December 2017, surrounded by family.
